The latest chance for some old rugby masters to dust off their boots came with great fun at Welwyn.

It was St Albans vets first game of the season and they did score three tries of their own through sheer hard work and determination.

Still got the first chasing up his own kick with a pass from Duncan Sharp, Richard Marshall drove close to the line before John Sayers finished for the second and right at the death Leon Ellis latched onto a pass for the final score of the game

However, the home side's own veterans were in inspired form and ran in double digits in tries of their own to claim the victory.

Herts RFU have successfully applied to the RFU for £7k of funding to promote this version of the game and county chairman Adrian Sparkes, under guidance for Herts RFU president Tim Bonnett, bought all the vets a beer afterwards.

Their next fixture is away to Old Albanian vets on Friday, November 24 with a 7.30pm kick-off.

All players aged 35 and over are welcome and anyone interested in playing should email Mick O'Shea at muckyshoe@hotmail.com or call 07989 898 842.
