Silverware was up for grabs at St Albans Bowling Club as they kept Saturday clear for an internal club competition.

The Millennium Cup is played under Aussie pairs rules and was won by Ian Woodcock and Joe Theis.

St Albans also played several competitive fixtures elsewhere.

The men's Friday Triples League fixture against Welwyn Garden City saw a 13-13 draw in the home rink at Clarence Park but a 20-10 defeat back in Welwyn saw them lose overall with only half a point for their trouble.

A friendly men's triples at home to Harpenden was won 48-40.

Two of the three rinks won, the best of them the 22-10 success for Rod Perks, Peter Browne and John Harvey.

They lost on Sunday though, 67-61 to Beech Hill of Luton despite St Albans winning three of the four rinks.

The best of the three was an 18-16 victory for Alan Turner, Keith Williams, in his first season as a bowler, Brenda Pitkin and Steve Wilson.

Townsend hosted Club Rink League leaders Batchwood across three rinks and picked up a 54-46 victory.

Ian Forster, Roger Potter, Andy Scarborough and Peter Thomson drew 16-16 on their rink while Robbie Ransted, Brian English, Mike Cowell, and Alan Charran won 22-12.

Batchwood won the third and final rink 18-16.

Townsend host Potters Bar next.

Waverley Road was also the venue for the London & Southern Counties men's pairs semi-final between Egham in Surrey, and Romford.

Romford took a 16-14 win.
