Colney Heath's new manager Matt Day promised he would keep it local when searching for new signings - and he has done just that with some familiar faces announced as returning to the club.

Goalkeeper Connor Sansom started the returning heroes, followed by defenders Sam Doolan and Dominic Knaggs.

Jack Woods completed the first quartet of summer incomings as the club look to recreate their promotion winning season in the Spartan South Midlands League promotion-winning season of 2020.

All four were part of that squad but left after their elevation to the Southern League brought an end to Ryan Thompson's reign.

Relegation followed despite the best efforts of Ant Burns and the Magpies just avoided a second successive drop on the final day of last season.

That was not enough to keep George Georgiou in the Heath hotseat with former Magpies' U23 manager Day making the switch from Sandridge Rovers.

The current U23 squad completed their Herts Senior County League Premier Division season with a superb 5-1 win at home to Hertford Heath.

They took the lead on four minutes when Hadley Gleeson beat a couple of defenders to set up Rocco Tuffnell who made no mistake from eight yards.

Gleeson then turned scorer on 22 minutes as he lashed an effort from 25 yards and it became 3-0 after Frankie Ward's mazy run was ended with a trip in the box.

He stroked home the penalty on 33 minutes.

Hertford Heath were able to score the next one, pulling one back midway through the second half but the win was sealed with a double in the final few minutes.

The first on 87 minutes came from Sonny Dumbarton before Godfrey Opoku added the cherry on top of the cake two minutes later, heading in at the back post.
