St Albans Striders dominated proceedings at the the Herts & Middlesex Vets Cross-country Championships - despite the mud.

The wet weather made conditions in Watford's Cassiobury Park interesting but the Striders simply guided over the surface.

Phillip Evans won the event overall and along with Christian Kurek, Gavin Murrison and Richard Evans, the Striders claimed team gold in the M40 category.

Not to be outdone, Nigel Aston, Steve Scorer, Jonathan Bird and Gavin Clifton also took gold in the M50 category and Colin Braybrook, Andrew Dobinson and Adrian Jones completed a Striders clean sweep of top prizes in the M60-plus category.

Back on the roads, eight Striders proved their stamina over the challenging Oakley 20 mile event in Bedfordshire, some of whom were using the event as part of their spring marathon training.

Howard Bull completed the course in a PB time of two hours 37 minutes 32 seconds.

Callum Bond also picked up a PB for himself over 13.1 miles, clocking 1:28:24 at the Fleet Half Marathon.
