St Albans City manager David Noble knows a thing or two about Arsenal - and he saw plenty of similarities between his new charges and his boyhood team during the win over Taunton Town.

Tafari Moore scored the only goal of the game five minutes into the second half in Somerset as Saints got on the winning trail again after back-to-back defeats.

And 1-0 to the St Albans has a nice ring to the former Arsenal junior.

Noble said: "It was a long old journey and we kept a clean sheet. It was a massive win.

"Dylan [Berry] didn’t have much to do and as a team we defenced very well, we controlled a lot of the game.

"These wins are huge, Arsenal used to win titles by winning 1-0.

"Shaun [Jeffers] scores goals but it is not enough on its own. We need others to score.

"And what a brilliant goal it was by the way. Brilliant link-up between Zane Banton and Tafari which they've been doing that a lot this year."

For the Peacocks, the result was the first time they have been on the wrong end of a score for almost a year and a half.

The last time saw them go down by the same result against Metropolitan Police on August 21, 2021.

Noble enjoyed hearing that stat.

The City boss said: "Someone told me they hadn’t lost a home game in 18 months. Is that right?

"I hope that is the case because that makes the win a bit better.

"You can see how they have got that record because they defend very well and concede very few so I’m a delighted with the win."

Saints will look to put together a new sequence of positive results when they face Hampton & Richmond Borough on Saturday at Clarence Park.

The last time the two sides met, on a wet evening in west London at the beginning of November, St Albans won 6-0.

A lot has changed since then though with then manager Gary McCann leaving the Beavers and being replaced by Mel Gwinnett.

Noble said: "I can guarantee we won’t beat them 6-0, it’ll be a totally different game.

"They have a new manager, new players and we’re expecting a tough test."
