St Albans Striders were able to squeeze one more race out of 2022 before starting 2023 with a chilly bang.

The Buntingford 10k took place on December 30 with Steve Buckle leading the squad home in a time of 57 minutes 17 seconds, good enough for eighth in a field of more than 400.

Douglas Hobson was 26th in 1:02:35 and Anthony Nicolson clocked 1:13:53.

Deborah Steer and Stacey Harris both ran strong races to finish first and second in their age category in times of 1:14:44 and 1:16:25 respectively.

Lehna Gardiner completed her first race with her son at the Colchester 10k earlier in the week, reflecting the regular buggy training she has been doing.

And the club finished 2022 with the annual year end Ashridge Estate social training run, one that was well attended by club members as usual despite the lashing rain.

The new year's efforts started early for Heather Hann as she finished third in the Cleethorpes New Year 10k, which was followed by a brave dip in the chilly North Sea.

Further south, Ben and Jenna Scott completed the Broadstone quarter-marathon near Poole in 54:22 and 57:35 respectively.
