An impressive turnout of more than 50 from St Albans Striders took on the popular Hatfield 5 mile race on Sunday with stunning success.

The event started and finished at the University of Hertfordshire and used a loop out to Smallford and back and also counted as the county's masters championship.

Stefano Federici was the first of the Striders to finish ad he stormed home in 26 minutes 12 seconds to finish second overall.

Steve Buckle broke yet another M40 club record, recording 26:36 to finish sixth overall and now just needs the 10 mile distance to complete a clean sweep of the club M40 records.

Matthew Cooper was just behind in 26:48 while Phillip Evans was 16th in 27:46, earning him fourth place in the county championship.

Max Campbell and Nigel Aston were fourth and fifth in the M50 group while John Cooper took gold in the M60 category in an impressive 32:35.

Lucy Waterlow was sixth lady and second F35 in 31:12, just ahead of Freya Weddell from St Albans AC in 31:18.

Wendy Walsh was second F45 in 33:29 and Kate Dixon was third F35 in 34:01.
