St Albans Striders had five of its stars winning county call-ups - and two of them came back with medals.

The Southern Inter-County Championship took place at the Brighton 10k with a large field of 1,200 runners.

Megan Walker finished as eighth female athlete and Heather Hann 12th, both setting personal bests in the process with the latter stretching her own V35 club record in the process.

Their contribution led to a silver medal for the Hertfordshire team.

Not to be outdone, in the men’s race Will Bowran (19th), Stefano Federici (26th) and Matthew Cooper (36th) narrowly missing out on the bronze medal.

Also taking part for Striders was Matt Holman who finished 39th in a PB.

There was a strong turnout at the St Neots Half Marathon too with 16 Striders competing in a field of 850 runners.

The first finisher out of them was Steve Buckle who came fifth in a time of one hour 13 minutes 31 seconds, followed by Jonathan Pennell in eighth in 1.15.26.

Buckle's time was also a new M40 club record by just under a minute.

The first female Striders were Helen Cartlidge (1.33.51) and Clare Watkins (1.34.00) which earned them fifth and sixth in their age category and top 25 across the female field overall.

The Striders were also represented at the Wendover Woods 10k on a challenging undulating course.

Richard Evans finished fifth in 44.33 with Fergus Sheridan 10th in 48.42.
