JAMES Quilter says that early goals have been the key to City's wins over Basingstoke and Bognor.

Paul Hakim opened the scoring against Basingstoke after just six minutes and although they had to wait 12 minutes to break the deadlock at Bognor, Quilter believes the early scores have given the side the confidence to push on and secure the wins.

Speaking to The Herts Advertiser he said: "We've been playing well and I think sometimes we've been dominating teams in the first 30 minutes and we haven't really put them to bed and put our chances away.

"But we've scored a couple of early goals and that's calmed us down a bit and we've been able to get the ball down and play and it gives us a bit more confidence."

City's improved form has also coincided with Quilter moving from midfield to centre half and the personal trainer says he's enjoyed the switch.

"It's been a while since I played there but I do enjoy it and maybe it's a stop gap or maybe I'll be there permanently, I'm not sure. I don't think [Ryan] Frater's too far away and I don't think [Adam] Everitt is too far from fitness as well so maybe it changes back to midfield but who knows? As long as we get good results then that's all that matters."

Team Bath visit Clarence Park on Saturday and Quilter is hoping that City can keep their good form going with a win against the university side.

"They're on a good run and they've played well against us early on this season when we played down there and they got a good result against us so it'll be interesting.

"Hopefully we can string a few more results together and go on a run like we did earlier on in the season then we can push nearer to the play-offs.
