ST ALBANS City Ladies were left to rue an injury to goalkeeper Rebecca Atkins as they conceded seven second half goals against league leader Stevenage Borough Juniors.
The City Ladies had limited their opponents to just a few openings in the first half going in to the break level at 0-0.
However, with Atkins unable to continue, they were forced into making several positional changes.
Centre half Claire Brown took over between the sticks with tough-tackling midfielder Katie Ladd filling in at centre half.
These changes saw the ladies lose out in the midfield battle and gradually Stevenage took control.
Very early in the second half Stevenage broke the deadlock and that opened the floodgates as they added another six before the game was out, inflicting the Saints' heaviest defeat of the season.
Forward Kate Clarke continues to battle through the pain barrier to ensure the side have 11 players and there were notable performances from Ladd, Clarke, Mary Warren, Brown and Ria Llewellyn.
Ladies: Atkins, Ladd, Smith, Warren, De Simmone, Johnston, Fish, Llewellyn, Brown, Choudhary, Clarke. Sub: Boyd.
