STEVE Castle admitted he'll have to reassess his options ahead of Saturday's trip to league leaders Newport County after St Albans City were knocked out of the Herts Senior Cup by Royston Town.

The Spartan South Midlands Premier Division side won 2-0 at Clarence Park and Castle was critical of his team's showing.

"I think there is a good percentage of lads that have let themselves down tonight and we'll have to reassess it for Saturday," said Castle.

"How many times have we been having these interviews and I've said 'goals win games' and 'we're not creating this, we're not creating that'? For whatever reason we're not fluent in front of goal and it's a real, real problem.

"Lets be honest, we can include league games where we should've seen teams off and we've been done by a sucker punch. I can think of Lewes, I can think of Welling in the very recent history.

"When you're on top of teams and when you're on top of games you've to finish them off and we're struggling to do that."

Castle didn't hold back in his criticism of his side and said his side doesn't even look like scoring.

"We might have had a break but we haven't sorted out our main problem and that's scoring goals.

"We don't look like we're going to score a goal from a set play, we don't really look, other than maybe Drew Roberts, like we're going to score a goal from open play.

"We've got a few lads that are dying to get into St Albans first team, we had a practice game yesterday and that may be the option because this lot at the moment, it doesn't look like they can score goals."

Royston impressed with a solid defensive display before netting two late goals and Castle says his side can have no complaints.

"Fair play to them, they weren't the worst team," said Castle. "They're a good outfit and good luck to them in the Vase (Royston host Tipton Town on Saturday). There were no problems with the opposition. They've had two chances, both of them were on target and they've both ended up in the back of the net."

With the exception of Peter Smith, who was as industrious as ever at left-back, only two City players really caught the eye, with Ross Dedman and Rob Magwood both impressing.

"That's a massive exception, both of them are very unfortunate to end up on the losing side. They've done themselves a power of good," said the City boss.

"It's great for them but probably at the moment I'm struggling to get any positives out of that game when we've been beaten by a South Midlands Premier team."

The Royston game also saw the debut of Nigerian striker Babatunde Ayodele.

The big striker arrived at City with a glowing CV but he struggled to show that he'd add anything to the Saints lineup during his 41 minutes on the pitch and Castle was similarly unimpressed.

"Baba's been here on trial, apparently he's been here, there and everywhere in the professional ranks. We had to see him - no comment on his ability."

City will face an even tougher task on Saturday when they cross the Severn Bridge to take on Blue Square South leaders Newport County.

Dean Holdsworth's side are 12 points clear at the top and have two games in hand. Despite being comfortable leaders, Holdsworth has been busy strengthening his squad, bringing in a number of players.

Chris Todd has joined from Torquay United and County were linked with Tim Sills before the striker opted to join Blue Square Premier leaders Stevenage Borough over the weekend.

"They've bought very, very strong.

"I know the lad Chris Todd, these are Blue Square Premier players if not league players," said Castle.

"They're ambitious, they're looking to get there (the Blue Square Premier), they've done absolutely fantastic. Dean's done wonders with them because they weren't the best team in the world last year.
