SATURDAY evening saw a gigantic battle between the best clubs from the surrounding counties in the Aylesbury Interclub Gala at the Aqua Vale Centre, Aylesbury.

St Albans Masters SC (STAM), representing Hertfordshire, fought neck and neck with Oxford's Witney & District SC going into the final event two points behind.

A mighty effort from all 16 members of STAM's squad in the final relay succeeded in gaining two points over Witney to tie for first place.

This Aylesbury invitation gala is one of the most hotly contested competitions in the Masters calendar.

A swift competition of 37 races consisting of individual 50m events and 4x25m relays stretching both strength and depth of clubs' resources.

Final positions: Tied first STAM and Witney (186 points); third South Beds (158 points); fourth City of Milton Keynes (138 points); fifth Amersham (137 points); sixth Bicester (116 points); seventh Aylesbury (100 points).

STAM, an alliance of swimmers from City of St Albans SC (CoStA), Verulam SC and Nuffield Health Fitness & Wellbeing Centre, has gained a well deserved reputation as the club to join for swimmers of all abilities and backgrounds.
