Saints skipper admits City need to regain their defensive mean streak

ST ALBANS City skipper Ryan Frater admits the team have to address the alarming number of goals they’ve been conceding ahead of this weekend’s trip to Luton.

The Saints leaked four goals in the last 15 minutes to gift Weston victory on Saturday taking the goals against tally to eight in their last two league games at Clarence Park.

“The last 15 you’ve got to try and see out the game but we haven’t done that and we’ve conceded four goals in 15 minutes which is not a good look,” Frater said of the Weston defeat.

“Eight goals in two games is a massive worry, especially the way we started the season conceding very few goals and now they’re coming thick and fast. It’s a problem we’ve got to sort out and quick.”

Frater acknowledged that the Luton clash will be a tough task and says the Saints will have to adapt to the challenges posed by the Hatters.

“It’s going to be a difficult game next week,” he said.

“We know what they’re going to be about, they’re going to be quick, fit and sharp so we have to adapt and hopefully get back on track.”

The Saints go into the game as underdogs but Frater says the magic of the FA Cup means anything can happen.

“We go there as underdogs but we want to equip ourselves and make sure we give a good account of ourselves and the league we play in,” said the 26-year-old.

“You never know, it’s the FA Cup and anything can happen.”

The tie has captured the imagination of the St Albans fans and Frater is hoping they can help cheer the Saints on against Luton’s vociferous home support.

He said: “It’ll be a good if we get a few St Albans fans down there supporting us because they’re going to have a massive crowd so it’ll be good if we have a few of our own fans there cheering us on.”
