St Peter’s winning run ended in controversial circumstances
HSCL Division One
Bedmond S&S 2 St Peter’s 0
ST PETER’S’ recent run of victories came to an end in controversial circumstances at mid-table Bedmond.
The Saints performed below par against a side who adopted a physical approach.
Saints’ stopper Billy Barnes was the busier of the two ‘keepers producing several excellent saves.
With the game looking to end goalless a controversial decision swung the game in the home side’s favour.
A good effort was well saved by Barnes before skipper Ross Wiltshire cleared off the line only for the official, a good 20 yards away, to award the goal much to Saints’ dismay.
Wiltshire was then red carded for his remarks to the official and as Saints pushed for an equaliser the home side hit a second goal.
The game ended on a sour note after a clash between both sets of players with Joel Norris and a Bedmond player both seeing red.
Saints entertain AFC Hertford this Saturday (KO 3pm).
St Peter’s: Barnes; Pooley, Costain, Wiltshire, Jones; Taylor, Stuart-Neal (Carman), Cunningham (Hood-Wright), Ellis; Norris, Savory. Subs not used: Beswick, Gauthier.
