ST ALBANS thrashed Berkhamstead by eight wickets.

The visitors managed a mere 88 as Richard O’Toole took four wickets along two apiece for Ben Ramsey, Josh Goddard, James Rosson. They eased their way to the winning target as Grant Carveth (32) and Mike Curtis (34) hit fours at will.

The IIs were on the wrong end of a draw away to Potton. They leaked runs from the off despite three early wickets from Afroz Kahn who bowled with characteristic aggression. But a fine 150-run partnership from the hosts’ middle-order pair meant the Saints had a daunting 268 to chase. After losing two early wickets, Matt Howeson and Sandipan Chandha set about the target with conviction. Howeson departed on 74 after a fine knock and Chandha brought up his memorable century with yet another late cut. Thereafter, the Saints soon lost momentum in spite of two lusty sixes from stand-in-skipper Uttam Vijander.

The IIIs made a promising start with the bat at home to Rickmansworth as Ashton (25) and Goddard (33) built a useful partnership, only for a middle-order collapse before David Christie, returning from injury, made a gritty and at times elegant 87* ably accompanied by John Webber who made a stylish 17*. Ricky, however, briskly set about their target of 206 and, despite run-restricting spells by Christie and 12-year-old Mark Telkman, the visitors came away victors with eight balls to spare.

The St Albans Sunday IIs had a winning draw against Old Camdenians in a friendly match. St Albans scored 233-4 with Manny Nisar (87) once again in the runs and new player Aaron Jones (84) showing well. In reply Faz Nisar (3-25) and David Ashton (3-17) shone with the ball but Old Camdenians held on at 117-8.
