Micah Hyde joins with Michael Harriman extending his loan spell at Clarence Park

EXPERIENCED midfielder Micah Hyde has become the latest recruit at Clarence Park as St Albans City boss David Howell looks to reverse the fortunes of his struggling side.

Having seen his side slump to their biggest defeat of the season, 6-1 at home to Barwell on Saturday, Howell has spent this week remodelling his squad with talks opened with the Southern League’s leading marksman, Bedford’s Drew Roberts, and QPR youngster Michael Harriman agreeing to extend his loan with the Saints to a second month.

Heading out of the exit door at Clarence Park is promising attacker, Jerome Walker, who has accepted a move to Metropolitan Police and Reece Yorke who has switched to Northwood. Harriman’s fellow QPR striker Mo Shariff has agreed to join Staines Town on loan but defender Matt Cutchey returns to the club following a short-term loan with Ryman Premier Division pacesetters Billericay Town.

Speaking of Hyde’s arrival at Clarence Park, Howell said: “Micah is a wise head and a good passer of the ball. I am looking to him to help get us going again.”

The former Watford, Burnley and Peterborough midfielder joins the Saints from Aveley and goes straight into their squad for this Saturday’s trip to fellow strugglers and Hertfordshire rivals Hitchin Town.

The club’s move to re-sign striker Roberts comes with the Bedford Town forward having notched 19 goals already this term. The striker is not under contract at The Eyrie allowing Saints to put in a seven-day approach for the striker and discuss terms over a possible move.

“Drew is not on contract at Bedford so we put in a seven-day approach last week, which allowed me to talk to him this week,” explained Howell.

“He has had a number of approaches but I have pointed out the benefits at Clarence Park now the club is under new ownership and is ambitious to progress.

“He has taken it on board and is thinking it all over. I am hopeful that he will realise that it could be a good move back here for him, where he will be wanted and welcomed.”

The Saints had already added full-back Narada Bernard and Simon Martin with Howell revealing he wanted more experience in his squad: “We’ve needed some experience and guidance in the squad in key positions and that’s what I have looked to bring in.”

The club is expecting more player movement later this week.
