RUGBY UNION: Over 50 players, and many more supporters, turned up at the Verulamians Rugby Club for the Dads and Sons Rugby game between Vees and Old Albanian last week.
The idea was to celebrate the enthusiasm of players young and old by playing a cross generational rugby game involving fathers and sons on the same team.
It was an overwhelming success with the game divided into four 20 minute quarters to allow mince pies and port to sustain the old legs and add some more creativity to the younger ones.
There was at one point three generations on the pitch, with a match winning try by Ernest Maile (80), supported by Tony Maile (44), Tom Maile (20) and Stefan Maile (18).
Dads and sons represented included Clendon, Ead, Grey, Hayes, Irwin, Keohane, Lynch, Maile, Ricci, Selkirk, Thomas and many more adopted fathers and sons.
The money raised from the event will go towards the Friends of Rwandan Rugby charity (www.friendsofrwandanrugby.org.uk).
