CITY’S under-18s went back to the top of the Allied Counties Youth League Premier Division with a hard fought single goal victory over Reading Town.
With five changes from the last match, City starting brightly and took the lead in the 11th minute. Following a short corner, Jacob Trigg on his full debut picked out Elliot Bailey in the box and his hard shot squirmed out of the keeper’s hands and inside the post.
Despite Reading’s lowly league position the home side gave a good account of themselves, playing direct football to two quick strikers who were a potential threat all match.
With shots on goal a rarity for both sides no more goals were forthcoming.
Overall it was another solid performance by City’s youngsters and special mention to the back four of Joe Martin, Francis Archibong, Laurence Wroe and Jack Dixon, who with the exception of Wroe, had only five starts between them all season.
City line-up: Warren Bell, Jack Dixon, Joe Martin, James Kaloczi (Danny McCarthy 46 mins), Francis Archibong, Laurence Wroe, Cieran Yapp (Hafid Bounyafe 55 mins), Matt Taylor, Elliot Bailey, Jack McNamara, Jacob Trigg
