Saracens scrum-half Richard Wigglesworth believes complacency won’t creep into the side during the final stretches of the Aviva Premiership and the Heineken Cup.

Sarries have four games left of the league season and travel to Ravenhill on Saturday (April 5) to face Ulster in the quarter-final of the Heineken Cup.

Having built up a seven-point lead in the Premiership and survived a strong pool in the cup, Wigglesworth insisted his team-mates will not lose focus.

Speaking at Saracens’ training base at Woollams Playing Fields, he said: “Complacency is not something this team has in its locker. We’ve never won every game but complacency isn’t something that runs through the team.

“If we lose this game it will be because Ulster deserve it. It’s not something we’re worried about; we’re more worried about getting it right.

“This time of year and flicking between different competitions, there’s difficulties that come with that. We have this squad and have been able to rotate a lot of players so I think the players are fresh and that should help us.”

He added: “I definitely think we can win [the Heineken Cup]. You have to put yourself in a position to win it and then in the big weeks show up and get it right. We didn’t do that last year but we have done it in the past. We endeavour to get it right this year, win the big games and enjoy ourselves.”

Wigglesworth’s confidence comes from an exceptional week of preparation.

“Training has been great; there’s always an edge to these weeks,” he said.

“There has definitely been an edge in training. Right through the squad we did a better good because we know how prepared we have to be.

“It’s always nice when you feel that edge is there.”

He continued: “All we can do is put ourselves in the position to win things. That is what this weekend will be. It’s a one-off game so we have to get it right but there are so many good teams that everyone is thinking the same thing.

“We’ll do our utmost come the big occasions to get it right.”
