Sean Shields will return to Dagenham and Redbridge following Saturday’s game at home to Havant and Waterlooville.

The 22-year-old has been at St Albans City for three months, the maximum tenure he can be on loan.

Shields originally joined on a two month deal but it was extended to three after a fan stumped up the cash for an extension.

“We’ve had him for as long as we can so he’ll be going back to Dagenham. His last game is on Saturday so I expect him to be involved,” said joint manager James Gray, who praised Shields and the impact he has had during his time back at St Albans.

Moving forward, Gray expects David Keenleyside to step into Shields’ boots, although he will have to contend with Luton Town loanee Charlie Smith for playing time.
