St Albans District pushed Watford to the wire at the Herts Primary Schools Inter-District Swimming Championships.
After a nail-biting finish, St Albans came a close second.
The team, consisting the top 32 Year 5 and 6 swimmers in the district, and led by captain Nathaniel Olayomi from Mount Pleasant Lane School, were looking for a back-to-back wins this year. However, Watford managed to steal the championships in the relays stage of the competition.
There were some excellent performances from the St Albans team, including overall win for the Year 6 girls and joint first for the Year 6 Boys, as well as three individual first places in the backstroke events: Nathaniel in the Year 6 boys, Sarah McGrath in the Year 5 girls and Isabel Harber in the Year 6 girls, the latter in a new record time.
Manager Andrew Ellis said: “The team really came together well and gave their all in a determined effort to retain the winners Rosebowl trophy.”
