Harpenden Golf Club raised £2,000 for the Honeypot Children’s Charity at its charity pro-am on Friday.
The event saw 13 four-player teams, each including a senior tour professional, battle it out on the course, which was in superb condition. After a tight contest, the team of Geoff Iddenden, Alex Malcolm and Tony Weymouth came out on top with a total of 84 points from the best two stableford scores.
The winning professional score was a fairly modest 68 (two under par) from Jamie Little, who had just won the Stella Di Mare International Pro-Am tournament in Dubai. Tied for second were Lloyd Kennedy and Jamie Elson on 69.
The money for Honeypot was raised through playing fees, a raffle, and an auction of exclusive golf days and golf memorabilia.
Since 1996, Honeypot has been working to enhance the lives of vulnerable children and young carers aged five to 12 years by providing respite breaks and outreach support. They give young carers a break from demanding and stressful responsibilities at home and provide a safe, nurturing environment where children at risk can develop their full potential.
The enjoyable day included appearances from 2003 French Open winner Phillip Golding, who plays in the 2015 Seniors US Open on June 25-28, 2004 Russian Open winner Gary Emerson and fellow tour pros Bill Longmuir, Jeremy Kavanagh, Mark Wharton, Richard McEvoy and Simon Lilly.
The longest drive winner was Harpenden’s very own Dan Ramsay at the par four 14th, while nearest the pin on the 167 yard par three eighth was Liam Davies.
Founded in 1894, Harpenden Golf Club is a private members club with a mature parkland course which, thanks to ongoing investment ensures, is one of the best in the county. There are more than 800 members with general membership open to men and ladies, plus an active junior section.
