St Albans City were beaten 2-1 at Chelmsford City this afternoon [Saturday] as their search for a first win of the 2015/16 Vanarama Conference South season continues.

Going into the game at Melbourne Stadium joint Saints managers Jimmy Gray and Graham Golds would have been hoping to break their winless league run after four defeats and a draw from their opening five matches.

However, Billy Bricknell opened the scoring for the hosts two minutes before the break with a well-taken goal just as the Saints began to test the home side.

St Albans’ Luke Allen, James Comley and Billy Medlock all went close with testing efforts from range, but Bricknell broke the deadlock following Christian Dibble’s punt up-field.

Saints replied though as striker Louie Theophanous brought the two sides level 11 minutes after the re-start with a well worked goal.

But Bricknell was on hand to tap home Hugo Skepelhorn’s cross to score the Clarets second on the hour-mark as they wrapped up a 2-1 victory.

St Albans host derby rivals Hemel Hempstead Town on Monday afternoon as their hunt for three points continues.
