Harpenden Swimming Club remain in contention for National Arena League promotion after the latest round.

They finished second by just two points at the gala held in Bushey.

And with just one round to go the club are in a good position to gain promotion from Division Two of the London League.

Harpenden finished in the top three in 41 of the 50 races, winning 15 of them.

The U14 boys’ team of Angus Harrow, Ed Campfield, Luke Temple and Yannik Wilson again shone, winning all of their races.

The U16 girls’ team, made up of Alice Dyson, Caitlin Hoddinott, Claire Burrell and Katialin Dang, also had a successful evening winning both of their relays.

In the U14s Larissa Dean claimed two personal best times, taking 0.22 seconds off her 100m backstroke and a whopping three seconds off her 100m fly time.

Campfield, Wilson, Hoddinott, Dang and Dean also picked up wins in their individual events with Emma Craig (50 backstroke), George Williams (50 butterfly), Bradley Borland (50 breaststroke) and Angus Harrow (100 butterfly) also tasting success.

Head Coach Annie Thompson said: “We are incredibly pleased that we are in contention for promotion in our first season in the league but we know that the team are going to have to work really hard to secure it.

“There was some very close racing and we are pleased with how our swimmers stepped up to the mark when the pressure was on.”
