St Albans Striders hosted the Fred Hughes 10 on Sunday in St Albans which also incorporated the Herts Championships. The 10-mile race started and finished in Highfield Park Drive and took the runners around South East St Albans. Simon Barrett of Serpentine took first place in a time of 55:10 and was closely followed by Andrew Reeves in second and Nicholas Houlton in third. In the ladies race, Laura Cowley of Herts Phoenix was first, with Anna Ward of St Albans Striders second and Penny Thorn finishing third. Paul Greaves of Herts Phoenix and Anna Ward were the respective male and female Herts Champions. St Albans Striders won the Herts ladies' team prize with Celia Findlay, Laura Jiggins, Jill Blight and Jane Lee bringing them home first. The Fred Hughes 10 event raised £550 for the St Albans Special Olympics fund. On Saturday, January 15, St Albans Striders claimed second place behind Shaftesbury Barnet in the senior men's team event at the Herts Cross Country. Mike Jubb, Sam Pullen and Mark Hamer all finished inside the top 10.
