Division Six

Met Police Bushey 91-10 (39.0) Radlett IV 91-10 (32.0)

RADLETT IV, guided by the inspired leadership of Jamie Wells, took on Met Police Bushey at a cold and damp Cobden Hill in Division Six.

Met Police have not lost a game in four years and turned up believing that they could and would win. Their prospects were not enhanced when Wells won the toss and advised his team mates that they would bowl and field in the cold.

Nick Searle (4-54) soon had Met Police reeling before Chandana Meepegama took over with astounding figures of six wickets in 10 overs for just seven runs.

Bushey, who had amassed 550 runs for the loss of seven wickets in their last three games, were all out in the 40th over for 91.

The drama soon intensified as Met Police got stuck into the Radlett reply. Zahur Gitay (14) and impressive natural cricketer Hardain Nandhra (11) provided some resistance but three of the top six failed to score.

At 57-9 the match looked to be over with Radlett set for defeat, only to get out of jail when Chandana Meepegama (28) was joined by Nick Searle at the crease. Meepegama fired a huge six to signal his intent and, with 20 struck off the next over, Radlett were suddenly in the running.

At 91-9, Radlett required one run to win but Meepagama was caught at gully off an edge from the final ball, leaving the teams tied. Radlett are sixth in the table and will hope to take the positives from going so close to beating formidable opposition as they go away to Old Camdenians on Saturday.

Radlett V lost a Division 11 thriller by one wicket against Knebworth Park V at St Edmund's College, Ware on Saturday.

After winning the toss and opting to bat, Radlett managed just 61 all out as the top order failed to deliver on a soft pitch. Tony Peck (25) top scored and received support from Shabbir Foyez (11).

The wisdom of Radlett skipper Matt Barrett's decision to bat first became clear when Park made a hash of their reply after a good start, as the pitch started to dry out. Vikram Rajput took two quick wickets and Matt Johnson claimed two more in his first over. Charlie Randall wheeled away for 11 overs to take 5-5, assisted by a diving bat-pad catch from the lively Foyez at silly mid-off as the match swung Radlett's way.

Knebworth's last pair needed half a dozen runs for victory on a drying pitch and they managed to get home on 62-9 after a few scares, mainly against Randall's left-arm spin.
