HERTS BOYS under 16 retained the Mike Amos Trophy as winners of the Inter-County League with wins in their final match at Caddington Golf Club against Bedfordshire 11 games to one and in a close match with Middlesex, 71/2 to 4 1/2.
In its second year, the league also includes Berkshire, Buckinghamshire and Oxfordshire, the format being triangular matches with teams of eight playing foursomes and singles, each county playing against two other counties.
Having lost a home match against Middlesex but having won their opening away matches, Herts needed a sound performance on the former Vauxhall course and started well, winning the foursomes 4-0 against Bedfordshire and 21/2-11/2 over Middlesex.
While Herts captain Luke Colgate, Daniel Ellis Banbury and Thomasz Anderson were beaten in singles, Josh Johnson, despite a muscle injury which restricted his swing, made up with his short game, gaining wins over both counties. Other victories came from Laurie Owen, James Gough and Mark Hammond.
