The bassist of the Zombies will be playing alongside three generations of his family at a charity gig tomorrow (Monday).

Jim Rodford, of The Zombies, The Kinks and The Bluetones fame, who lives in St Albans, will be performing at The Rose & Crown in Sandridge on Monday (2) in aid of Rennie Grove Hospice Care.

Jim will be playing with The Rodford Files, which last played at the pub 11 years ago, and will be joined on the day by his eldest son Steve on drums, younger son Russ on guitar and guitarist and singer Derek Tims.

The band will play two live sets of 50s, 60s and 70s rock and covers.

Jim’s granddaughters, Anja and Cara Rodford, will be playing as the trio A.R.C with Russ in a set featuring their folk versions of classic tracks.

Alongside the musical performances, there will be a barbecue, bouncy castle, and raffle in aid of Rennie Grove.

The cause is one close to the Rodfords’ hearts, as friend of the family and St Albans resident Lewis Pracey was supported by the hospice before he died in January.

Jim said: “We’re local people who are pleased to be returning to Sandridge and play some great tunes from our repertoire while we have fun and fundraise for a very good local cause at the same time.

“It’s a great opportunity to put our musical talent to good use and raise as much money as we can for Rennie Grove to support the important work they do. We hope people will flock down to see us on the day and dig deeply, of course.”

A percentage of all takings from food sold on the say will be donated, with the pub also offering a dinner for two at the Rose & Crown and their sister pub The Gate at Bricket Wood as raffle prizes.

Jamie West, landlord of The Rose and Crown, said: “We’re really excited to be having The Rodford Files and A.R.C. playing here at the pub on what’s going to be a brilliant day out for all the family.

“Jim and his family have and continue to travel the world to play and we are really chuffed that they have chosen our pub to play this time. Don’t miss them or a brilliant day out.”

Tickets to the events are £5 for adults and free for kids with all proceeds going to the charity. They are available now from the pub or on the day itself.
