THE next Rory McIlroy could be right under the nose of a Harpenden golf club which has been offering free coaching session to local schoolchildren.

Head PGA professional Robin Turley and his assistant Chris Field at Aldwickbury Park Golf Club have been offering the coaching as well as staging a number of children’s days during half term.

Children as young as five have been heading to the club to learn all aspects of the game from chipping and putting to driving and iron play.

Robin said: “We have had great fun teaching the youngsters who have all been very keen to learn about golf. We have had children from the ages of five up to 12 visiting us at the club where we have taught them all the aspects of golf throughout the day and have staged competitions including longest shot, straightest shot as well as putting and chipping competitions.”

Among the children who have received free lessons are youngsters at Fleetville Junior and Sandridge Schools in St Albans.
