Three women from a St Albans recruitment agency are bravely taking to the skies to raise money for charity.

Jo Baker, Laura Holt-Thomas and Zoe Sigler, from Red Door Recruitment in Chequer Street, will be undertaking a ‘wing walk’ - strapping themselves to the top of a biplane for a 10 minute flight.

The wing walk will take place on Sunday, July 8, and will raise money for Rennie Grove Hospice, which Red Door has been supporting for many years.

During the flight, the biplane will reach speeds of up to 130mph. Zoe said: “I am petrified. I’m afraid of heights and flying - my hands are clammy just thinking about it!”

The trio are aiming to raise £2,000 for the hospice, and have so far raised more than £800.

Laura said: “We have been patrons of Rennie Grove since the beginning, so for about 10 or 11 years. We’re always trying to find different ways to raise money.

“This is the only one that we think might actually help because it’s something daring. We get strapped to the top of a biplane in a harness and then the plane takes off, so you’re standing on top of a plane and it takes off and does a 10 minute flight.”

Jo said: “We’ve done some previous events - we’ve done runs and some walks, this is just a bit more exciting. I did a skydive for Rennie Grove about three years ago and it was really finding something that would top that.

“We’re all adrenaline junkies in here.”

Rennie Grove Hospice provides care and support for adults and children diagnosed with cancer and other life-limiting illnesses through its 24/7 ‘Hospice at Home’ service, family support services and day services at Grove House in Waverley Road.

Speaking about Red Door, Jo said: “We are an independent agency that’s been going for 11 years, and we have links to over 150 companies in the local area. We’ve built up to a great reputation within the community.”

A statement from the women on their fundraising page said: “We will be taking part in this daring challenge to hopefully raise lots of money for a charity who we are proud to be supporting patrons of.

“So if you think we’re nuts but would like to see us take on the challenge, please can we kindly ask you to donate so that we can achieve our target. We would be so very thankful for any help you can give us.”
