A St Albans man has spoken about doing a Herts County Council apprenticeship in his forties.

Ahead of National Apprenticeship Week on Monday, March 5, Richard Gardner commended his associate project management course for giving him the opportunity to work on interesting projects.

He said: “Working alongside experienced project managers in the Improvement Team has provided me with a great deal of experience and new skills. I love the fact I am learning new things while working at the same time.

“Many people I have spoken to have been surprised I am embarking on an apprenticeship in my forties. In reality it is a great way to change careers at any time of life. However you do need to be prepared to undertake some basic tasks.”
