Megan Turner was born and raised in the city and always dreamed of designing fashion and opening her own shop.

But despite having studied fashion at Oaklands College and taken a degree in it at the University of Northampton, she wasn’t sure what to do.

Megan said: “I noticed the demand for children’s clothes, and realised the themes and styles of high street stores hadn’t evolved much from when I was a child.

“I wanted to change that by putting a modern twist on styles and prints.

It's all coming together

“The clothes are quite unique. It’s not anything you would find on the high street, which is very similar to when I was the child.

“The high street has lots of pinks, yellows, and blues, but I like to use funky prints.

“I have always loved dressing up, but children’s clothes now are not something I would want to wear if I were a child.

“The clothes I design are like what I like to wear.”

A VERY limited amount of these will be up here on insta tonight! 8.30pm!

Aged21 she started Mini Megan Turner from her bedroom, and used Facebook and Instagram to build a following of 20,000 people.

She soon began exporting her clothes all over the world.

Asked if social media was important for people trying to break into fashion, she said: “Definitely. The majority of my orders are not from St Albans or Hertfordshire.

“On a weekly basis, I’m sending them to America, Australia, Russia, France, Italy, so without social media I would not have what I have now.

“Social media is so important these days.”

Megan’s business has now outgrown her bedroom, so she is opening her very own shop in the city centre.

She said: “All of the items are made by myself and customers can see the clothes being made when they’re visiting the shop.“

Mini Megan Turner is based at 37 Catherine Street, and its grand opening will be on Saturday, December 9 at 9am.

It will be selling fashions from 0-3 months to 5-6 years, and giving out 30 goodie bags to the first 30 customers.
