An adventure on the ski slopes seems an unlikely achievement for people who are disabled or seriously ill.

But thanks to the Wheathampstead-based Jumbulance Trust, the dream has come for a group of 23 young disabled and ill people who recently returned from Austria.

With the help of special equipment and fully-trained instructors, even those with disabilities have been skiiing down the green and red runs accompanied by volunteer buddies who gave up part of their holiday entitlement to take part.

The fun continued into the evenings when they enjoyed gluhwein and on one occasion, went on a sleigh ride through a snowy forest.

Among those who went on the trip were Thomas Cozen, Rupert Johnson and Scott Caseberry from Harpenden and volunteer carers Amy Humphries and Becky Coleman, also both from the town.

The Jumbulance Trust has two special vehicles, part coach and part ambulance, which makes it possible for the seriously ill or disabled to go on holiday.
