The Scouts have done their bit to reduce plastic waste by conducting a community litter pick.

1st London Colney Scout Group are celebrating their 100th birthday this year and to mark the event the scouts, aged between six and 18, are completing a number of activities.

One hundred and twenty volunteers turned up last Saturday, including parents and friends of the Group, and they were split up to cover five routes over two hours.

In that time, they gathered over 50 bags of litter ranging from crisp and chocolate wrappers to tin cans, glass bottles, rubber bands, abandoned clothes and even an empty cash register.

Beaver Scout leader Yeti said: “We would like to say thanks to St Albans council for supplying the litter picker, bags and hi-viz jackets the young members used, and also to Arco of Watford for supplying additional litter pickers and litter picker hoops.

“Overall it was a great success and a true triumph of community spirit.”
