The rushed timetable change introduced on May 20 led to widespread delays, cancellations and overcrowding on services run by Govia Thameslink Railway, including those through St Albans and Harpenden.

Protest organiser and Liberal Democrat candidate Daisy Cooper said: “Majority of people who came had never done anything like joining a protest before and said they finally felt, after complaining online, they wanted to take a stand.

“It was probably the start of a much bigger commuter fight-back.”

The same day as the protest, which was attended by 15 to 20 people with a further 20 to 25 stopping by to share their experiences, the House of Commons Transport Select Committee said they will be launching an inquiry into the timetable change.
