St Albans was spared the worst of the wicked winds whipping across the country this week.
Other than a couple of felled trees, there was little disruption on the roads around St Albans, Harpenden, Radlett, Wheathampstead and Redbourn.
The rest of the county was not so lucky, with Herts Highways saying: “Up until 12pm we have received 162 reports of fallen trees and branches, 102 of these requiring an emergency response.
“[Council contractor] Ringway has responded by pulling additional crews off planned work to deal with the volumes received.”
In Welwyn Garden City a large tree fell across the road, blocking traffic.
Tens of thousands of people have been struggling without electricity in parts of Scotland and Northern Ireland.
According to the Met Office, it will be dry but cold in St Albans district tomorrow, with brisk winds and a maxium temperature of 4C.
One or two rain or hail showers are possible in the afternoon.
On Saturday, St Albans will have sleet showers in the morning, and temperatures will not rise above 4C.
Sunday will be warmer, but there will be a greater chance of heavy rain.
