MEMORIES came flooding back for Burma Star veteran Reg Lewis when he attended a combined service of remembrance in St Albans last weekend.

Reg was among those at the Woodland Park, Jersey Farm, who assembled for the service to commemorate VE and VJ Days at the Burma Star memorial, one of two Burma Star memorials in the park.

The Mayor of St Albans, Cllr Annie Brewster, laid a wreath at the service together with Cllr John Hall, chairman of Sandridge parish council, and Don Dell of the Royal British Legion.

Among the guests was the grand-daughter of one of the runners for the troops during the Burma campaign who received a special cheer from the veterans and other members of the public at the service.

It was conducted by the Rev Gary Russell, vicar of St Mary’s, Marshalswick, and chaplain to the 795 Squadron Air Cadets with musical accompaniment from the Salvation Army Band and musicians from Spicer Street Church. The bugler was John Black.
