FOUR village homes have been hit in a spate of burglaries which took place yesterday (Monday) afternoon.
Properties in Harps Hill, Cavendish Road and Wesley Road, Markyate, were broken into between 2pm and 5.30pm and only in the latter address did the thieves escape empty-handed after being seen off by the householder.
In Harps Hill and Cavendish Road, a number of items including rings and necklaces were stolen after the thieves broke in through the front door.
A little earlier in the afternoon, between 1pm and 2.15pm, an untidy search was made of a property in Parsons Close, Flamstead, and a small amount of cash, a ring and some collectors' coins were taken.
The break-ins were among seven yesterday which included properties in Hemel Hempstead, Tring and Bovingdon as well. In all cases the thieves got in through the front door.
Police have warned residents to lock up their homes properly at night or when they go out and not rely on a single rim lock on the front door.
