Warning after two chimney fires

THE FIRE service has warned people to have their chimneys cleaned after being called to two fires on Friday. Crews from St Albans fire station attended the first blaze which was in the chimney of a property in Oakwood Road, Bricket Wood, at around 10.30

THE FIRE service has warned people to have their chimneys cleaned after being called to two fires on Friday.

Crews from St Albans fire station attended the first blaze which was in the chimney of a property in Oakwood Road, Bricket Wood, at around 10.30am. They had to climb onto the roof of the detached property to tackle the fire which was all out by around midday.

In the afternoon they were called to another chimney fire in Watling View, St Albans, but that blaze only took around 20 minutes to put out.

Firefighters have now sent reminded people that chimneys should be cleaned at least once a year to eliminate the build up of soot which can cause fires.
