A GANG of violent robbers attacked a pensioner in his Harpenden home in front of his wife before stealing jewellery and cash.

The three thieves entered the property in Annables Lane, Kinsbourne Green, through a window at between 9.50pm and 10pm on Tuesday (September 22) night.

During a struggle they launched a violent assault on the 70-year-old man, leaving him with bruising and a suspected broken rib which required hospital treatment.

The three robbers then made off with jewellery and cash after raiding the house.

Two arrests were made within an hour of the incident but the men were released without charge after police established that they weren't in the area at the time of the raid.

Police are urgently seeking information and witnesses about the incident.

The three suspects are thought to be in their 30s or 40s and were wearing dark clothing and masks covering their faces.

Anyone who can help with the enquiries should call the police on 0845 3300222 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
