Christmas excitement erupted in St Albans on Sunday as Gareth Gates unveiled the city’s magical festive lights, which for the first time adorned the iconic Clock Tower.
Thousands of residents of all ages wrapped up warm and took to St Peter’s Street to witness the annual event and kick off the countdown to the holiday season.
The former Pop Idol contestant is performing as Prince Charming in the Alban Arena pantomime and joined his fellow co-stars, including local comedian Bob Golding, on stage along with St Albans Mayor Cllr Annie Brewster.
The group, led by Gates, sang We Wish you a Merry Christmas to excited crowds before switching on the lights, which were heralded by an explosion of glitter and confetti.
