St Albans was decked out in tinsel and fairy lights today to look the part while The National Lottery filmed a Christmas television advert.

A camera crew began this morning at The Old Village Stores, on High Street, Sandridge, where they filmed someone purchasing a lottery ticket from the corner shop.

Owner David Hearn said: “They started at 6am this morning and we only opened again one hour ago. It was a massive set and it was quite impressive. A lot of people came down to watch it.

“They put tinsel on the shelves and there was more fairy lights than you can even imagine.”

Then the crew moved to Market Place this afternoon and created a festive feel with actors posing as Christmas shoppers and a brass band playing a rendition of Gilbert O’Sullivan’s Ooh-Wakka-Doo-Wakka-Day.
