Archant

Watch the video of a car catching alight in Harpenden yesterday evening.

At about 7.40pm a blue vehicle was being driven along Hillside Road, off Luton Road, when it suddenly caught alight and smoke poured from the undercarriage.

A Harpenden crew from the Herts Fire and Rescue Service arrived within six minutes and had extinguished the flames by 8.05pm.

A witness said the intense heat had warped the bonnet to such an extent that it had to be prised open with a crowbar.
