A GARDEN centre in St Albans has donated hundreds of shredded Christmas trees to an allotment association.

Aylett Nurseries on the North Orbital Road converted around 800 old Christmas trees into chippings on Thursday (4) and delivered all of them to The Cottonmill and Nunnery Allotment Association.

Director of Aylett Nurseries Adam Wigglesworth said that the garden centre collected trees from 463 houses over the course of January, 100 more than they did last year.

He added: "As well as collections, people have been able to drop their trees off here free of charge for years and it is great that the allotment association can put the chippings to good use. They are always keen to receive them and we are delighted to be able to help them out.
