Detective Inspector Pete Frost, from the Local Crime Unit, said that business premises in Redbourn and Harpenden were targeted in a series of burglaries and attempted burglaries overnight on Friday, August 12, and into Saturday, August 13.

He said: “One of the burglaries occurred at Medivet in High Street, Redbourn, and pentobarbital, a drug which is used to put animals to sleep, and animal grade diazepam were taken.

“Both these drugs are harmful to humans and I would appeal to anyone who may know of the whereabouts of these items to please contact us.”

The thieves forced entry into the veterinary clinic via a fire exit. They then forced open a medical cabinet and took the drugs. Charity boxes with money in them were also stolen.
