A musical society has been left in the doldrums following the final performance of a show after their store was broken into and vandalised.
The day after the curtain closed on Harpenden Light Operatic Society’s (HLOS) production of Half a Sixpence on Saturday October 10, members of the society went to their store inn Crabtree Lane to return set and props.
But they were greeted with a damaged door, broken and dismantled furniture, and rubbish left around the vicinity after a break in.
Chris Cardy, chairman of HLOS, said she believed that the store, which she described as ‘out of the way’, was used for a party because of the amount of bottles and cigarette stubs found.
She added: “The break-in was obviously a shock after an exhausting week of performances but it is particularly annoying as we will now have to remake or buy things for our production of The Wedding Singer.”
It is believed the vandals cut through a fence and then gained access to the outbuilding by forcing open a door. Around £500 worth of damage was caused but nothing was stolen.
Police are currently investigating the incident and anyone with information is asked to contact the non-emergency number 101.
