Vandals target cars in St Albans streets

PUBLISHED: 14:52 24 May 2011

GROUPS of youths have been damaging vehicles in several residential roads in St Albans.

People in Brampton Road, York Road and Woodstock Roads North and South are being asked to keep an extra eye out for people causing criminal damage to cars parked there.

Neighbourhood sergeant Karen Lewis said: “Groups of young people seem to flock to the area and damage vehicles, probably as it is used as a cut through.

“We have carried out a number of operations and worked with local schools to try and deter this behaviour, which causes a lot of distress to residents – but we also need the help of local residents.

“We want to find out who is responsible, deal with them most appropriately, which will most likely be an arrest, and put a stop to this ongoing criminal behaviour.”
She added: “I don’t think those responsible for the damage are aware of the impact they cause on their victims by this mindless vandalism. If anyone has any information, I would encourage them to get in touch and help put a stop to the callous actions of these individuals.”

Anyone who sees any suspicious behaviour or is interested in joining Neighbourhood Watch is asked to contact Pc Neil Jeffery via his radio on 01707 354192 (when he is on duty), the non-emergency number on 0845 33 00 222 – or 999 if you see a crime in progress.

Alternatively, call Crimestoppers (an independent charity) anonymously on 0800 555111.
