HEARTLESS vandals daubed gravestones with graffiti at a St Albans city-centre churchyard in the early hours of Christmas Day.
It was sprayed on several gravestones and paving stones in the churchyard at St Peter's Church between midnight and 12.48am.
Police are appealing for information and witnesses to the vandalism and Police Community Support Officer Iftakhar Iqbal of the St Albans Safer Neighbourhood Team said: "This thoughtless act has undoubtedly caused much distress for the local community, especially at this time of year, and we are treating it extremely seriously."
He added: "I am urging anyone who may have seen the incident take place or knows anything about it to please come forward immediately to police."
