Uno bus company have pledged to launch a full investigation after one of their double-deckers smashed into a Harpenden railway bridge this morning.
The 271 bus, which was travelling out of service with no passengers, had its roof ripped off when it crashed into the low bridge in Station Approach just before 8.30am.
Emergency services closed off the road for around two hours to allow the vehicle to be safely removed by a recovery team.
A police spokesperson said they could not currently comment on the reason the bus took the route.
Michael Finn, general manager for Uno, said: “Passenger and public safety is Uno’s main priority and a full investigation is taking place to determine how the incident happened.”
