A MAN who was stabbed in St Albans on Friday is no longer thought to be in a serious condition and is recovering in hospital.

The incident took place outside a hair salon at The Quadrant, shortly before 4.15pm, where a man in his 30s received stab wounds to his chest and hand.

Rapid response vehicles, a land ambulance and the Herts Air Ambulance arrived at the scene in The Ridgeway and police cordoned off the area.

The man was taken to Watford General Hospital by land ambulance and was later transferred to a London hospital, where he was in a serious but stable condition over the weekend.

Staff from the Quadrant Unisex hair salon were first on the scene and have spoken about the frightening experience.

A young lady who works at the salon said: “We were in the staff room when we heard shouting and screaming. I ran to the top of the alleyway and there was a guy holding his side and he said he had been stabbed.

“I ran back in to the salon and my colleague Pat called the ambulance.”

She continued: “He then asked me to go and get his phone from his car which was parked near Barclays. I couldn’t find it at first but went back again and managed to locate it.

“By this point he was laying on the bench and I ran back into the salon to get him some towels for the blood.

“We’ve never had anything like this in the area before. I was quite frightened.”

Police are now appealing for anyone with information about the incident to come forward.

The offenders have been described as a white man, aged in his 30s, with a stocky build and bleach blond hair, wearing jeans and a black top and a white woman, aged in her late 20s to early 30s, with black hair and wearing a red blazer.

They were seen to leave the scene in a silver vehicle.

Detective Sergeant Nina Yuill from the St Albans Local Crime Unit said: “Our enquiries are on-going and every effort is being made to trace the suspects. I would reassure people that we believe this was a targeted incident and the offenders and victim were probably known to each other.

“This took place in the busy shopping area of the city and I’m sure there were many witnesses to what happened. If you have not yet spoken with police, but believe you may have witnessed the incident, the circumstances that led up to it or the offenders leaving the scene, I’d strongly urge you to make contact with police.”

Anyone with information about the attack is asked to contact the St Albans Local Crime Unit via the Herts Police non-emergency number 101. Alternatively, you can contact Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555111.
